Simply being exposed to diversity can change the way we think. Study after study has proven that diversity is needed to create teams capable of genuine innovation and modernisation, as it amplifies creativity, and encourages imagination and new ideas. But is there really evidence that multicultural experiences enhance creativity? And if they do, how does it happen? In today’s finance function, diversity means much more than equal opportunities, going much further than gender, ethnicity or social equality. Finance leaders need to encourage diversity of thought and be willing to have entrenched viewpoints challenged. Diversity can benefit the finance function only if the workforce is empowered to express its diversity. How do you ensure that your workforce doesn't become full of people who look different from each other, but think in the same way?

This is no simple task. How do you handle those difficult and sometimes awkward conversations with unengaged parties? Cultural change is challenging irrespective of the objective, but it is perhaps even more so when the objective is an inclusive culture. Resistance is common, especially when you are working in an industry that is rooted in traditions. So how do we do it? Is it possible to engage men as allies? Why is this conversation so low on the list of company priorities? This panel will provide solutions to the common challenges in creating an inclusive culture, and help you to get a good start on your diversity journey.

Diversity and inclusion has been proven to improve recruitment, productivity and retention, but is there a legal obligation to enhance diversity and inclusion? We explain the legal position, the potential legal risks and the steps employers can take to defend claims of discrimination and minimise potential legal liability. In particular, we will focus on positive action. When is it lawful or another form of discrimination? Our panelists will discuss their practical experience of implementing specific diversity goals and quotas and what other ways they believe diversity and inclusion could be lawfully enhanced.

Where are you in your career? Where do you want to be and how do you get there, whilst remaining authentic to who you are? And importantly, how do you recognize and deal with the barriers that hold you back. This workshop will assist you in understanding 4 career stages and where you are with yours. It breaks down the barriers we, as women tend to experience and also those we unconsciously put in front of ourselves and provides us an understanding of what this is really all about. Only when we truly understand these barriers can we begin to break the cycle and unleash our true potential, with courage.

Life is a matter of choices. From the moment we wake in the morning, to the time we go to sleep at night, we are making choices. Some of these are so routine we do not even stop to think of them. Your career is also a matter of choices. However, making the right choices for your career requires the right mind-set. Is mind-set a fixed state or is it something we can choose? Do women adopt a different mind-set to men? Does mind-set impact gender balance? How can we improve our choices with the right mind-set?

The ability to quickly and easily adapt to change is often a competitive advantage in leadership. However, changes at work can be emotionally intense, often sparking confusion, fear, anxiety, frustration and helplessness. Change can be physically and emotionally draining for employees, and often leads to burnout, embedding an insidious cycle that leads to even greater resistance to change. But how do we overcome this? Eibhlin's talk, “Gut Throat Leadership – Leading from the Inside Out” is based on her first book, "Gut Throat Leadership".   The book is an exploration of thought and overthinking and its impact on leadership. Her session will explore overthinking and the effects that it can have on our wellbeing, stress levels, listening and our ability to “get stuff done”. She will also share her findings on authenticity and its impact on leadership. Authenticity can be fragile; one thought and it slips, and we take on a fraction of someone else’s persona; leaving behind a slither of our true authentic self; slowly losing sight of our true identity. Throughout her talk, she will share tips and techniques to reduce thinking and stress levels; leading towards greater productivity.

The banking and finance sector, for all of our advances over the past 20 years, has a long way to go to combat systemic inequality. The situation we are currently facing is that Ireland's banking, finance and insurance industries are still male-dominated environments. So, what are we going to do about it? What can we do to challenge the status quo? How are we going to rock it and stand out from the crowd?

There is a stark gap in the number of men and women at the upper echelons of the financial services sector. Fact. By no means will this come as a shock to women, but it still demonstrates that, despite a fairly significant focus on gender and diversity issues and a willingness to change, the pace of that change is painfully slow. Why are there only 13% women at the chief executive level? Is the pipeline balanced all the way up? Do quotas need to be drawn up in order to provide a clear path for greater gender parity at senior levels?

Without a client-focused culture, organisations can never truly achieve a strong client experience. It’s often the missing component for companies that continue to miss the mark on customer experience. A customer-focused culture puts the client as the centre point of everything the company does. More than profits, shareholder expectations, or growth, the main goal of these companies is customer satisfaction. Instead of relying solely on a strong product, a customer-focused model is much more sustainable because it is built to move with the changes and trends of the customers. How do organisations go about shaping a client-focused culture? Do we need to be putting ourselves in the customer's shoes? And why is empathy critical?

87% of individuals are disengaged in their jobs, because they are not in the right job, not moving ahead in their career, not using the skills they know they are capable of, and do not know how to take the next step towards where they know they are capable in their career.

That all turns around when you implement the right steps to develop the influence and authority to take control of your career path, and develop a career game plan to get to where you know you are capable in your career.

This talk is for you if:

  • You are reaching a stage in your career where you know you are much more capable but you are not sure what that looks like or how to get there.
  • You have reached a plateau in your career, and you are thinking where you could use your skills in a more fulfilling and rewarding career path.
  • You need a game plan to accelerate your career, without the overwhelm and sacrifice.
  • What you will discover is:

  • The one thing you need to get clear on, so that you can get on a faster path towards a more fulfilling and rewarding career
  • The one thing that is standing in your way, that once removed will set you up for success.
  • The one thing that can explode your influence and authority in the workplace overnight.
